Stayed over a day in Fairbanks at the hostel because I needed to get things in order for attempt on North Slope and Prudhoe Bay tomorrow.
Got info on oil field tour, which requires advance reservations for security background check, and found a B&B in Wiseman (near Coldfoot) about midway on the route for $100 incl breakfast and dinner, as opposed to $199/nite for a hotel with no meals or extras. They name their price up here...there's limited competition. I guess as well they should being that they probably get little to no business in the other 9 months of the year.
Worked on repairing the snap that pulled out of my jacket the other day. Took a trowel and scraper and wood chisel to pry the halves apart far enough to clamp it back into the fabric. This extreme weather gear I ordered has proven less than durable and not so extreme in the weather it will handle. I expected to do some work on my gear during the trip because I just got the wild idea to do this trip and left soon after with not too much prep...but not this much.
Here is the result
Used sockets as sets to drive the two halves back together

It was obvious that it would just pull out again soon so I added some urethane glue...time will tell how this works out (or doesn't).
More pricing...these subs are $5 in Tucson and most of the rest of the states. Prices here in Fairbanks are actually pretty low compared to the small towns in the state that I've been thru so far.
