A Great Day, Deadhorse back to Wiseman

Super Day as I begin to retrace my steps southward.

Foggy morning in Deadhorse

Ray from Arizona City, AZ, maker of sew-it-yourself outdoor clothing, has kayaked the entire Arctic coast, skied to the south pole, and is now riding his bike around Alaska. Another one of the many people I have met who have accomplished amazing things!
Ray was kind enough to take this photo of me so Wendy can see I still exist.

What will the next 240 miles hold? Anyone's guess, including the weather forecasters as I have learned, who sometimes admit they don't really know what will develop. The concept of "waiting for a nice day" doesn't really apply here, because what looks ugly at first may soon turn  into a beautiful day.

A friend I have not seen in days!

Amazing, I can see the Brooks Range in the distance! So that's what it looks like!
The weather was so far much better today so I got to see what was covered in cloud on my way north.

Millions of white flowers dot the rolling roadside tundra

Grading the calcium chloride salt into the road. The road maintenance up here is phenomenal; if a section of road gets damaged, for instance by rain, it seems like these guys are in it within minutes. This road is the umbilical lifeline to the oilfields.

Just pretty countryside and so nice to not be focused so much on the road and have time to look

Fellow rider on the road. Notice how in most of the photos of the road stretching off for miles you don't see any vehicles? That's because there aren't any except the occasional haul truck or state transportation pickup. I often cruised for long periods of time without seeing another vehicle.

Approaching Atigun Pass, it looked to be quite rainy up in there. It has been a dry ride so far...

The roads were muddy but I got only light showers. I think I missed the bulk of the rain.

Coming down the south side of the pass was beautiful and good weather.

Once the rain stops, the water drains rapidly and surface dries quickly.

I get off the road for a wide load!

Constant companion
